Printing Guide

1. Overview

This document outlines the complete process of creating, downloading, and printing QR codes using the Dyrect Portal. It also highlights recommended best practices to ensure QR codes are durable, scannable, and suitable for long-term use across different environments.

Creating QR Codes-

QR Codes will be generated in Dyrect Portal. The QR code generating has two major aspects-

  1. Serial Number – Serial number can be designed with in predefined format. It has prefix and serialized number e.g. BR-100001, TAG-00001 etc. We can decide what prefix to be given and from where to start the serialization. Serial Number must be of min 7 and max 20 digit including prefix.
  2.  URL – each serial number will be associated with unique URL. This is system generated and NON-CUSTOMIZABLE

Printable file format-

Generated/Created QR Codes can be pulled (download) in two formats.
  1. .XLSX – Excel Format which can be provided to the printer who then will convert these URL into QR Codes.
  2. .PDF – PDF can be generated if you need QR codes to be inserted in specific label design e.g.

Printing Options-

Printing of QR can be done inhouse or with the help of vendor, depending on the availability of resources.

  1. In House Printing - The machineries have to be supported serialized printing. General printing tools will not be helpful.
  2. Printing Through Vendor – In case inhouse printing facility is not available then we can print QR codes with the help of vendors. We can find multiple vendors who can provide serialized printing. Dyrect can provide references if needed.
Best Practices to Printing QR Code Labels

Below mentioned are the principal guidelines that should be followed for the best results.

2.  Size and Print Quality

a) The minimum recommended the size of the QR code is 10x10mm for better readability.

b) Printing Quality should be high - Minimum 300 DPI

c) It is advised to laminate the sticker paper after printing the matter so that the QR code is not distorted and can be used for a longer time.

3.  Materials and Quality - QR codes cannot be read on highly reflective or highly curved surfaces, especially when the light hits it just right and whites out the dark squares

4. Color -

a) Print on white or soft pastel color background

b) Don’t print on a dark color paper

c) Do not reverse or invert in print. The black must be black or a dark contrast color for scanners to appropriately pick it up. The scanners use the three dark corner marks as reference points

d) If you’re going to colorize your code, make sure there is at least a 55% contrast difference between the squares and the background.

5. Format –

a) Use PNG format when developing/saving your QR code. PNG is a scalable vector graphic so it suffers no loss when being resized. After it’s resized, you can save it to a different format like jpeg or gif. a) Use PNG format when developing/saving your QR code. b) Make sure when you’re resizing your graphic to scale it proportionately. Don’t stretch or distort the code.

6.  Label Adhesion –

The life of a sticker depends on the adhesive quality of the sticker paper. Hence it is very important to make sure that the label used has a high adhesive quality, so to have a longer life.

Conclusion

By following the defined QR code generation process and adhering to recommended printing best practices, businesses can ensure reliable scanning performance and longer label life. Proper planning around formats, materials, and printing methods significantly reduces operational issues and reprinting costs.
