How to Add Customer Information Fields to Your Form

Notes

Overview

Basic Input Elements are used in the Form Builder to collect essential information from customers during warranty registration.

The Form Builder provides different input types based on the type of information you want to collect. The commonly used basic input elements are:

  • Short Text – For short, single-line responses.
  • Long Text – For detailed or multi-line responses.
  • Email – For collecting and validating email addresses.
  • Phone – For collecting customer phone or mobile numbers.
  • Name – For collecting the customer's name.
  • Date – For collecting a general date such as Date of Birth or Installation Date.
  • Purchase Date – Specifically used to capture the product purchase date for warranty registration and eligibility validation.

Choosing the appropriate input element helps ensure that customer information is collected accurately and consistently.

Steps to Add a Basic Input Element

  1. Open the Warranty Form in the Form Builder.
  2. Navigate to the Elements section.
  3. Click Add Elements.
  4. Select the required input element from the available options.
  5. Configure the field settings, such as:
    • Field Label
    • Placeholder text
    • Required/Optional status
    • Field-specific settings, where applicable
  6. Review the field in the form preview.
  7. Repeat the same steps to add additional input fields.
  8. Click Save once the form configuration is complete.
  9. Publish the form when all fields have been tested and verified.

Configuring Individual Input Elements

1. Short Text

Use Short Text when you need customers to enter a short, single-line response.

Examples: City, Model Number, PIN Code, or Landmark.

2. Long Text

Use Long Text when customers need to provide a detailed or multi-line response.

Examples: Comments, Feedback, Issue Description, or Additional Information.

3. Email

Use the Email element to collect the customer's email address. This field is useful when registration confirmations or other warranty-related communications need to be sent to the customer.

Example: customer@example.com

4. Phone

Use the Phone element to collect the customer's phone or mobile number.

Examples: Mobile Number or Alternate Contact Number.

5. Name

Use the Name element to collect the customer's name during warranty registration.

Example: Customer Name.

6. Date

Use the Date element when you need to collect a general date.

Examples: Date of Birth, Installation Date, or Service Date.

7. Purchase Date

Use the Purchase Date element to capture the date on which the product was purchased. This field can be used for warranty registration and purchase-date-based eligibility or registration-window validation.

Example: Product Purchase Date.

Best Practices

  • Use a clear and customer-friendly field label.
  • Mark a field as Required only when the information is necessary.
  • Use the appropriate field type instead of using Short Text for every type of information.
  • Use Email for email addresses and Phone for phone numbers to enable the relevant validation.
  • Use Purchase Date instead of a generic Date field when collecting the product purchase date.
  • Use Preview to verify the form before publishing.
  • Test required fields and field validation with sample data.

Conclusion

Using the correct Basic Input Element ensures that customer information is collected in the appropriate format and makes the warranty registration process easier for customers.

By selecting the right field type, configuring its settings, and testing the form before publishing, you can create a clear, accurate, and user-friendly warranty registration form.
